Call NowUpload Resume

You’ve combed the Internet for possible job openings. You’ve spent a lot of time polishing your resume and cover letter. And before an interview, I did days of research to learn more about the company. But, alas, you aren’t getting any follow-up calls after the interview.

Where are you going wrong?

1. Answering Your Cell Phone

Make sure you turn off your phone or tablet before an interview. When the phone rings, the last thing you want to do is answer it instinctively… just as the hiring manager is attempting to make a crucial point. If you do, you’ll almost certainly be added to the “do not hire” list.

2. Dressing Unprofessionally

To look sharp during a job interview, you don’t need to go out and buy a designer suit. What you must do is make sure your suit fits properly, is in a muted or neutral colour, and is ironed and ready to wear the morning of your interview. Clothing that is too casual or ill-fitting exudes sloppiness and unprofessionalism.

3. Not Appearing Interested

If you’re only interested in the perks and benefits of the job, that attitude will come across loud and clear to a hiring manager. During the job interview, it’s critical to be energetic and enthusiastic. You need to connect with the employer. That doesn’t mean you have to be bouncing off the walls, but you should appear enthusiastic and curious.

4. Bashing a Past Boss

In your previous job, you could have worked for the worst boss on the planet. However, if you make fun of him or her during a job interview, you’ll be the one who looks bad. If the hiring manager asks about your departure, remain as diplomatic as possible. Instead, concentrate on what you learned and how you progressed during your time there.

5. Not Getting Specific

You can certainly claim to be the best at what you do. But what evidence do you have to back this up? Hiring managers seek candidates who have a track record of success and positive outcomes. And if you can provide several strong ones in your job interview – all of which are relevant to the position – your chances of being hired increase significantly.
