How To Limit Your Resume To A Single Page?

In most cases, the first documentation a recruiting manager will use to get to know you is your resume. This suggests that your interviewer has established a perspective on you based on the contents of your resume before you even interact with them.

Every day, recruiting managers receive over 75 resumes for job positions. They aim to choose the best candidate as quickly as possible. Most recruiters just give a resume six seconds of their time. This is why it is important to keep your resume brief, to the point, and, eventually, on one page. If you follow these guidelines, you’ll be able to limit your resume to one page in no time.

Reduce Your Margins

A standard word document has one-inch margins on every side (top, bottom, left, and right). Making your margins a little narrower by reducing the inches will offer you a lot more  space to write without radically changing the format and style of your resume. We propose a margin size of 0.8 inches all around, but no less than 0.4 inches. A substantial portion of white space on your resume is needed to keep it well-organized and easy to follow.

Avoid ‘Widowed’ Words

When we refer to a text as a ‘widow,’ we are referring to the typical mistake of having a single word or short sentence fall to the next line. This not only affects the appearance of the design but also uses up an entire line of space for a single word. We don’t want to waste all of the space so our resume should be limited to one page. When working with ‘widows’ in bullet points, try to find ways to either build up or compress the bullet point.

We suggest starting your bullet point with a power word that describes what you were in charge of and the outcome of your actions. Consider what you did in that position rather than just your responsibilities. Bear in mind that the first few words of the bullet points are more crucial than the rest so recruiting managers can just skim your resume. But don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to discuss the entire story after you’ve landed the interview.

Include Only Relevant And Recent Information

A resume aims to catch the eye of a potential employer. It should be a resource that positions you as the best candidate for the job you’re applying for. Consider tailoring your resume to the job description offered by the employer. This makes sure that you are only using the most relevant information.

Consider this for a moment. If you are applying for a position that requires you to interact with kids, you would most certainly have previous experience dealing with them. If you are applying for a position at an investment company, you will most likely have a previous, banking, or math background. Include only information that will bring you an advantage; everything else is superfluous and a waste of space.

Seek Help From Resume Writers

Creating a one-page resume is a daunting task. It needs thought and consideration. Most aspiring candidates fail to condense all of the information into a single page. This is where a professional resume writer comes into play.
