Resume Writing: How to strategically use bullet points?

You put a lot of time and effort into creating the right resume. Hiring managers, on the other hand, scan it for a few seconds. What would you do to make your background stand out and make you the obvious choice for the job? It can be difficult to do. Your skills and expertise would be easy to search if you add the right information and format, it correctly.

1. List bullet points under each job.
The Work Experience part on the resume is the perfect place to use bullet points. Since this is the section on which recruiting managers can rely the most, you can devote time to making it compelling and simple to understand. To do so, under each job title, write two to four bullet points outlining your duties and achievements. Wherever possible, be descriptive and provide related results and quantifiable achievements.

2. Be as specific to the job as possible.
Based on the job or employer you’re applying for; your bullet points can vary. In reality, you should adapt and tweak your resume for each opportunity to make it as good as possible. This entails keeping each bullet point as precise and important to the job as possible. Make a priority list of achievements or responsibilities.

3. Keep your bullet points brief.
In a resume, there’s a lot to blend in. However, you don’t want it to be cramped or sloppy. It’s for this reason that you should keep your bullet points to a minimum. Remember that your resume is just a highlight reel. As a result, you don’t have to list any job or task you’ve ever done. Instead, keep each point short and to the point, providing only the details that is most important to the job opening.

4. Use action verbs in your bullet points.
Each bullet point should begin with an action verb. When opposed to passive language, these give your resume a more confident feel. Only make sure you aren’t using the same one repeatedly. Some different examples to consider include:

  • Led
  • Spearheaded
  • Organized
  • Delegated
  • Assessed
  • Coordinated
  • Orchestrated
  • Launched

5. Format your bullet points properly.
When making the bullet points, avoid using any flashy graphics or formatting. Simply use a standard circle. This will make the look of the resume clear and clean, so the recruiting manager won’t be distracted when reading it.
