Resume writing secrets that will WIN you a job interview!

When writing a CV, you tend to emphasize your education, skills, and achievements. But how much attention do you pay to keywords?

In today’s tech-driven world, it’s crucial to not just include keywords in your CV, but to do it wisely. This is because most employers analyse your resume with a software system called an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to see whether you’re a suitable fit. It does so based on the keywords that are included within it. Even if you’re the greatest candidate for the position, but your resume lacks the appropriate keywords, or none at all, you may well be skipped over in the hiring process.

So, how do you get your CV past the ATS and into the hands of a person? Here are a few exclusive resume writing tips:

Research relevant keywords.

Keywords that are suitable for one employer may not be appropriate for another. As a result, make sure to look at each job advert as well as the corporate website for keywords that are most relevant for a specific role.

Put them in the right place.

Place keywords at the top of your CV as much as possible. ATS software’s search engine crawlers will reward resumes with keywords more toward the top of the page and flagging them as more significant.

Furthermore, most hiring managers focus on content “above the fold” and only examine each resume for a few seconds. The closer you go to the top, the better.

Use them in the right frequency.

When it comes to keywords, don’t go overboard. This is known as “stuffing,” and it is frowned upon by both software systems and people. Adding too many keywords sounds odd and reflects negatively on you, even if a recruiting manager reads it first. Instead, include terms that are relevant to your industry throughout your resume.

Don’t forget about the hiring manager.

Remember that a hiring manager will ultimately see your resume in your effort to make sure it is smartly optimized for software. It’s for this reason that you should use a reverse chronological resume format. Also, when possible, use numbers to quantify your achievements.
